I just want to say based on some fandom comments I have seen on various boards about people not liking season 2 so far...
I LOVE season 2 and it just keeps getting better & better!
Most negative comments go something along the lines of the following:
*We aren't seeing enough of the 'main players'
*There are too many characters
*There is too much going on and too many timelines
*They aren't together like they should be
etc...etc...
Well yes they are introducing more characters but like stated in the pilot 'There was an enchanted forest filled with ALL the classic characters we know....Or think we know...' So really? What do you expect? That the show is just going to show us the characters we have seen so far???? Come ON!!! I started watching this show BECAUSE it was going to have a LOT of characters!
I think we are seeing plenty of the main characters...with some others thrown in...Its AWESOME!!!
There aren't too many timelines...there are 2 just like always...present and flashback
As for there is too much going on...UMMMMM HELLO!!!! A major curse just got broken, magic came, and SHIT has happened...its chaos! and wonderful!!! anything less would be BORING!!! Also they get like 45 mins every week to tell an epic story and lets get real here...they are doing a awesome job of it...tying in the timelines and the characters and what is going on in the present! At the end of every Sunday I can't wait for the next Sunday...mission accomplished in my book...
And lastly about the characters not all being together - probably my least favorite comment to see!!! -
No the main characters may not all be together...but it is a plot device most notably done in such KNOWN GREAT works like LOTR (LORD OF THE RINGS)! Tolkien took those characters and brought them together and then spread them apart only to bring them all back together at the end. This kind of thing has inspired writers of fantasy to employ the same methods...For ONE George R R Martin with his Song of Ice & Fire (SOIF) series...more well known as Game of Thrones (GoT - an HBO series based of the SOIF series with the name of the 1st books title). Martin has said he modeled his books after LOTR with creating an entire world as well as using those tactics of separating them all and then bringing them back (SOIF is not complete and the characters are still apart but Martin has stated that it is his intention to 'bring them all back together at some point'. In BOTH of those books there are A TON of characters!
Anyway I just wanted to get this off my chest and say I really enjoy the show and how they are portraying/telling it!
That isn't to say i don't have my nitpicks (which are mostly error related and not storyline related) but overall I really love this show and also realize this is NOT my story...so I will continue to watch and enjoy the show and hope that the writers will continue to tell it the way they WANT to tell it as it is their story!
