Sir Maurice is runs a town in FTL and has a daughter, Belle, who has been promised to Gaston. Maurice's town is embroiled in the Ogre Wars, and he has sent an offer to Rumplestiltskin in hopes that he can save them. Rumplestiltskin shows up to offer his deal, but when he names Belle as his price, Maurice refuses. However, Belle agrees anyway and leaves with Rumplestiltskin.
In Storybrooke, Moe French owns the "Game of Thorns" flower shop and has no idea he has a daughter. He has a loan from Mr. Gold (Rumplestiltskin), who was in love with Belle and believes her father drove her to kill herself. When Mr. Gold is merciless about collecting his payment, Moe is persuaded by Regina to steal certain items from Mr. Gold including a chipped teacup. When all the items are recovered except for the teacup, Mr. Gold kidnaps Moe and beats him severely. Moe has recovered when the curse breaks.
